What Does Commercial Moving Mean?

Commercial moving is the relocation of a business rather than a household: offices, showrooms, warehouses, retail units and everything they contain, including partitions, workstations, IT equipment and stock. It differs from residential moving mainly in sequencing, because the work is planned around the hours the business is closed and around the order in which each area has to come back online.

In practice that means three things a home move rarely involves. A written plan tied to your operating calendar. Crews sized to finish inside a fixed window instead of an open-ended day. And a disposal plan for whatever does not travel to the new address.

Evening and Weekend Moves, at the Same Hourly Rates

Most businesses cannot afford to close on a Tuesday. We schedule commercial work outside operating hours, and our regular hourly rates apply to evenings and weekends the same as to weekdays.

The constraint is availability, not cost. Weekend slots are the most requested ones we have, so the earlier a date is confirmed, the more likely you are to get the window you actually want. A business move booked three weeks out has options. One booked three days out takes what is left.

Decommissioning and Disposal in One Pass

Emptying a commercial space is rarely just a move. Part of the contents goes to the new address, part goes to storage, and a large part goes nowhere at all: end-of-life furniture, partitions, damaged racking, accumulated material that has to be off site before the landlord walks through.

Our crews handle disposal directly, with containers on site as the space is cleared. That matters because the alternative is coordinating a second contractor around a schedule that is already tight, and paying a crew to wait while it happens.

Musée Grévin, Eaton Centre. After the pandemic, the museum had to be fully decommissioned out of a downtown mall. The client came to us a few days before their deadline needing a plan and a price, and we had both back to them fast enough to be approved within a day. The work ran 12 teams across two shifts over three days, and four containers of material left the site.

Miele Montreal Distribution Centre. Office, showroom and warehouse, decommissioned in five days. Three different kinds of space, three different handling requirements, one window.

Société québécoise des infrastructures. The SQI is the Quebec government body responsible for managing the province’s public building portfolio and supporting public organizations on their infrastructure projects. We relocated one of its offices from Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu to Quebec City, running two shifts with a crew of 16 and two supervisors on site. Our mandate covered the full cycle: planning, client support, on-site supervision and execution.

None of these is a typical job, and we are not suggesting every business move needs twelve teams. They are here because they are the honest measure of what we can put on site, and supervise, when a deadline does not move.

What Are the Red Flags With Movers?

The three that matter most for a business are no verifiable registration, no written scope, and crews that turn out to be subcontracted to someone you never vetted. Any of them leaves you exposed if equipment is damaged or a deadline is missed, because the company you signed with is not the company on your floor.

What Does a Commercial Move Cost in Montreal?

Smaller business moves are billed hourly on the same rate card as our residential work, which starts at $125 per hour for a truck and two movers and runs to $195 per hour for a truck and four, in regular season. Larger projects, decommissioning and anything with a fixed deadline are quoted on scope rather than by the hour, because the number that matters to you is the total and the finish date, not the rate. Billing runs from the moment our team arrives at the pickup address until the last item is unloaded.

Storage Between Two Addresses

Staged moves are common in commercial work, where the new space is not ready when the old lease ends. We provide storage as part of a move for exactly that gap, with your contents held in our facility until the receiving site is ready. Storage is arranged with the move rather than rented separately, so it is planned into the schedule from the start.

Can you move us outside business hours?

Yes. Evening, overnight and weekend commercial moves are standard for us, at the same hourly rates as weekdays. Weekend windows are in the highest demand, so confirm your date as early as you can.

Do you handle IT equipment and servers?

Yes. Computers, network hardware and sensitive equipment are packed and handled separately from general furniture. Coordinate the disconnect and reconnect with your IT provider and we will schedule around it.

Can you dispose of old furniture and equipment?

Yes. Our crews handle disposal as part of the move, with containers on site while the space is being cleared. On the Grévin decommissioning, four containers of material left the site.

How much notice do you need for a commercial move?

More is better, particularly for weekend windows, but short notice is workable. We have gone from first contact to an approved plan in a matter of days on a full museum decommissioning.

Do you set up the new space, or only deliver to it?

We reinstall. Partitions, workstations and furniture go back together at the receiving address, and retail and showroom setups are part of the scope rather than an extra.
